PAS thanks Chinese for voting in Malay reps
PAS has expressed its gratitude toward Chinese voters who had voted for Malay Pakatan Rakyat candidates in the recently concluded general election, even if it meant having to vote against a fellow Chinese.
PAS information chief Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (left) said that the action of such voters proved that the allegation by Umno that the Chinese has rejected the Malays is only slander.
“The Chinese voters were willing to vote for Malay candidates without any narrow racial sentiments, as claimed by Umno.
“There are tens of parliament and state assembly seats that were contested by Malay candidates against candidates from the Tiong Hua race (Chinese) in mixed constituencies, that were won by the Malay, proving that Chinese voters were willing to reject candidates of their own race,” Tuan Ibrahim said in a statement today.
He claimed this could be part of efforts by the mainstream media to create a smokescreen to hide possible cheating in the election and for PM Najib Abdul Razak to secure his position within Umno.
Umno, he said, must cease “playing with fire”, using the results of the 13th national polls to stoke the flames of the Chinese-versus-Malay sentiment, especially since such action is not based on actual facts.

Meanwhile, in another statement, Pahang PAS information chief Suhaimu Md Saad explained that DAP’s big win in the polls did nothing to lessen the number of Malay representation in parliament.
He stated in fact, the success of Pakatan’s candidates only served to increase that number by seven.
He citing various examples in which Malay Pakatan parliamentary and state candidates from PKR, DAP and PAS were able to defeat BN challengers, including Chinese ones. Among the examples a given are:

To further debunk Umno’s claim that non-Malays are against the Malays, Suhaimi further cited 13 examples of seats where non-Malay BN candidates won, despite having Malay-majority electorates.
Among the constituencies listes in his statement are - Simpang Renggam (57% Malays), Tanjung Piai(51%), Batu Sapi ( 51%), Gurun (57%) and Kahang (74%).
