The Star, Metro (South): Tuesday January 19, 2010

JOHOR BARU: More than 400 former students are expected to attend St Joseph School’s grand reunion dinner at Mutiara Hotel here on Feb 6.

The dinner, which will start at 7.30pm, will also commemorate the school’s 55th anniversary.

The organising committee’s press liaison officer Vincent D’Silva said the dinner would be an opportunity for former students to celebrate the school years they spent together.

“We expect a number of alumni to come from Australia, Britain, the United States, the Philippines, Vietnam and Hong Kong.

“For some of them, it will be their first time they will meet after 20 to 50 years,” he said.
D’Silva said some 20 former teachers have also agreed to attend the event.

“It is a chance for them to look back at the school’s achievements over the decades and catch up with each other.

“The dinner is open to alums of all batches,” he said.

Prominent alumni who will attend are Malaysian Artistes Association president Freddie Fernandez and Malaysian Medical Association president Dr David Quek.

A stroll around the school will be held at 10am followed by tea at the school canteen.

A Johor band, The Wanderers, will serenade the guests at dinner.

“There will also be skits, recitals, songs and games to keep everyone entertained.

“The programme will include a one-minute moment where a few alumni members will be invited to share what happened in their lives after they finished their education at St Joseph School,” he added.

D’Silva urged all former students of the school founded by the Brothers of St Gabriel in 1955 to attend the dinner.

“No matter which year or whether you have lost contact with us, we welcome you to this event wholeheartedly,” he said.
